One of the biggest selling points for Nintendo consoles since the releasing Wii was the unleashing of Miis, those customizable avatars linked to your official account that you can use as your character in many of Nintendo’s games. Taking into account this experience as a reference, Nintendo has created Miitomo, a social network for smartphones in which you interact with your own Mii as well as all the other Miis in your contacts.
Whether or not you already have a registered account with an Nintendo ID, logging on is easy enough, all you have to do is type in your email address or log onto your social media account. However, if you do already have a Nintendo ID account, you’re in luck because that means that as you play you’ll be able to accumulate points and virtual coins that you’ll later have the option to exchange for new products within the company’s new reward system MyNintendo.
On this Miitomo you’ll have the chance to create a Mii that looks just like you! You can choose how to dress it up in tons of different ways (as long as you have credit on the online store ingame) and respond to questions about your virtual self that will later influence how you interact with other Miis in your contacts. Not only that, but you’ll also be able to see what they’ve shared with others as well.
Over all the whole experience has a social component that you can use to share updates, personalized pictures of your Mii and you can rank other peoples updates.
Miitomo isn’t exactly a standalone video game, but rather a way to attract people who have been out of touch with the Nintendo universe by way of their smartphones. The Free-to-Play philosophy is the basis of this platform. Nintendo, welcome to the Android ecosystem.
